AROMATHERAPY
is the modern day term given to a principle of healing
that has been used by mankind since the beginning of recorded
history. A reawakening of the benefits of herbal fragrances
has led to an increased interest in their usage. To help
you use aromatherapy we have listed the range we carry
along with some of the benefits suggested by modern aromatherapy
texts. These claimed benefits have not been proven under
orthodox medical research.
QUALITY of essential oils varies from harvest
to harvest, by the extraction process used and by the
fraction collected. Quality varies considerably and so
does the cost. A high quality essential oil has a fragrance
that contains many "notes" and lingers, while
a lesser quality oil has only one or two "notes"
as strong spikes which pass quickly from the senses.
USAGE of essential oils can vary from
person to person but generally they can be used in massage,
as compresses, vaporised and inhaled, in bathing and directly
onto the skin. When choosing oils for use we suggest the
checklist be used but also recommend you allow your intuitive
feeling to flow as well. We suggest the following books
available at this pharmacy as references: "The Fragrant
Pharmacy" by Valerie Ann Wormwood " Practical
Aromatherapy" by Shirley Price "Aromatherapy
for Women" by Maggie Tisserand " Aromatherapy"
