Capsules

The production of capsules

All capsules are prepared onsite using a capsule machine that we have specifically purchased from PCCA Australia, with authority of the DEA through the United States of America. They are not available for the average non-compounding pharmacy to purchase.

We are able to make capsules using specific ingredients (active ingredients) together with appropriate inert mixers to ensure that capsules meet the needs and dosages of medication required across the batch of capsules prepared. Inert mixers used are usually 'Avicel' (a microcrystalline cellulose derivative), or lactose, but we prepare most capsules now without the use of lactose due to lactose intolerance within a growing proportion of the population.

Capsules may also be prepared using a vegetable based capsule rather than the more common gelatin capsules of usual bovine origin. This may be applicable for patients with specific dietary requirements be it due to ethical/ethnic or religious reasons amongst others.

We can prepare capsules containing a combination of ingredients specific to your needs and may be able to use different colours, sizes, and excipients as required specifically and individualised for you.
